Hong Kong History Museum and Tea at the Peninsula Hotel

It was Wednesday so we went on our usual mid-week excursion. This time we went to the Hong Kong History Museum and the Peninsula Hotel. Both are on Kowloon, so after a taxi, a short train ride and a few blocks of walking we were there.

When they say The Hong Kong History museum, they mean it. It covered the history of the area from 400,000,000 years ago to present day: from sedimentary rock when it was a river delta, to native villages and customs, to Bob's Big Boy toys from their manufacturing plants in the 1960's. The girls were a bit resistant to go, but like eating vegetables, it's good for them and they've got to digest something healthy before they can have dessert.

And speaking of dessert, after the museum we walked to the Peninsula Hotel. Built in the 1920's, it has a very colonial English feel to it. Having tea at the Peninsula is one of the "must do's" while in Hong Kong. The scones, tea sandwiches and cakes were beautifully presented, but more importantly, delicious.

(By the way, did you know that all the food at the Peninsula has no carbs? Unbelievable, isn't it?)

Afterwards, we took the Star Ferry and a taxi home. Traffic in Wan Chai was very bad, so we took one of the higher mountain roads home which gave us a spectacular view of Hong Kong and the harbor as the sun set. Gorgeous!
