It was Sunday and Tom was off all day. We slept in, watched the Angels play the Dodgers on-line and then headed out to Soho & Sogo.
Soho is an area of Hong Kong that SOuth of HOllywood Road. It's know for "The Escalator" which is actually a series of about 10 or 15 escalators that run up the hill to get you from place to place. The area looks like what you imagine Hong Kong to be. There are narrow streets, tiny alleyways and laundry hanging from the apartment balconies, and once again, the strange and unusual smells that make Hong Kong, well, Hong Kong. There are lots of small shops, open markets, restaurants and antique stores. We headed up the hill checking out the shops and then headed back down . . and down. . .and down. . .and down. Tom stopped counting steps when he got to 460. We ate at Fat Angelo's, an Italian joint at the midpoint of the hill. We ducked in just in time before it started pouring rain outside.
After lunch we went to Sogo, a HUGE Japanese department store in Causeway Bay. It has 14 floors of shopping with everything you'd ever want. It reminded me a lot of Macy's in New York City. Katie bought a necklace and on the floor that had all electronics, Tom found the ultimate toy: a $4000 Panasonic Massage Chair. It rubbed your back, it rubbed your legs and feet and it even had slots you put your arms into to massage your hands. It was the perfect thing after walking around the city and climbing down all those stairs. Tom took the brochure with him with hopes that $4000 will somehow fall out of the sky. I've included a photo of instruction sheet a little bit below. Unfortunately, the chair only runs on 220.
